TVXQ #2 in overall Japanese sales despite controversy and non promotions

Japanese statistics and music information company Oricon recently released an article titled “Idols and K-POP bring the sparkle to music industry with new movement.” The article contains sales data from December 28th, 2009 to November 22nd, 2010 and talks about how expectations for singles sales in Japan was expected to go down. Despite the negative projections, singles sales actually went up due to Arashi, K-Pop groups such as TVXQ and the girls groups (KARA, SNSD), along with the surge of AKB48.

What was surprising in the article was the sales figure chart which showed that TVXQ was 2nd in overall sales for 2010, only behind Arashi despite the lack of promotions and controversy the group faced in 2010.

The group had controversy with the JYJ / SM Entertainment conflict and the halting of activities through Rhythm Zone / Avex. Despite this they had a astounding total sales amount of 9,411,500,000 yen (over $112 million). Single album sales amounted to 777,200,000 yen, Album sales amounted to 1,690,000,000 yen, DVD sales amounted to 4,604,500,000 yen, and Blu-Ray sales amounted to 43,700,000 yen.

JYJ's Junsu Cast in Leading Role for Musical "Tears of Heaven"

JYJ’s Junsu will be heading overseas next for the Great White Way, as he’s been casted for a leading role in the Broadway musical, “Tears of Heaven“.
Considered to be the ambitious work of Seol Company’s CEO, Seol Do Yoon, and Core Content Media’s Kim Gwang Su, the production revolves around a love triangle set during the Vietnam War between a Korean soldier, a female Vietnamese singer, and an American officer. Junsu has been casted for the role of ‘Jun Hyung’, the Korean soldier that falls in love with the Vietnamese singer, ‘Lin’. ‘Jun Hyung’ later becomes a famous composer and the father to his daughter that he had with Lin.
Seol Company reportedly set aside $10 million USD for production costs alone. The musical is scheduled to open for December 27th in Korea, and will run for a month there before being taken overseas to Japan and Europe. A performance in the States by 2012 has been pinned as their ultimate goal.
Representatives of Seol Company revealed on December 10th, “We cannot give a confirmation statement right now regarding the cast line-up. All final casting decisions will be made public at the production conference to be held on the 13th. By February, this musical will be performed all over Asia, including Japan and Hong Kong. The ultimate goal is Broadway.”
Composer Frank Wildhorn of “Dracula” and “Jekyll & Hyde” will be producing the songs, while Junsu will be working alongside Broadway star Brad Little.

No, Jaejoong didn't not put nail polish on JiJi's claws!

Many fans have expressed confusion upon seeing JiJi's "safety nails" that Jaejoongtweeted about a couple of days ago:

No, Jaejoong didn't not put nail polish on JiJi's claws!

The "safety nails" are small plastic tips that you can slip over your cat's nails to stop them from scratching and destroying furniture. They are a safe and humane alternative to declawing, which can be quite painful and traumatizing for a cat. Many pet owners use them! Take a look:

Aren't they cute?

Jaejoong Is The Most Sought-After Idol Amongst Drama Producers

He's "Currently Considering His Options"

'First Micky Yoochun, now YoungWoong Jaejoong!'

Group JYJ's YoungWoong Jaejoong is currently the most sought-after idol star for dramas and many are wondering if this means he will debut into the domestic drama scene any time soon.

Beating all the idol stars currently active, YoungWoong Jaejoong is the most sought-after idol amongst drama producers and has been receiving numerous love calls. Though there are many idols who have gone into acting, a rumor is circulating within the industry that YoungWoong Jaejoong is an actor who 'will bring great success if you catch him'.

A representative in the drama production field stated, "'Sunao Ni Narenakute', the Japanese drama YoungWoong Jaejoong appeared in, attracted quite a large amount of popularity in Japan," and "As it is now important for drama producers to take the Japanese market into consideration, YoungWoong Jaejoong has become the most sought-after star in the domestic drama industry."

Also, the fact that YoungWoong Jaejoong has been highly praised for his acting, which is more stable compared to that of other idols who have been swept up in controversies over their lack of acting abilities, in the movie 'Postman to Heaven' and the Japanese drama 'Sunao Ni Narenakute' is an added bonus.

Regarding this, YoungWoong Jaejoong's representative stated, "It is true that he has been receiving many offers to appear in Korean dramas. He is indeed planning to appear in a domestic drama. However, nothing has been set in stone yet, and he is currently considering when and what production he wishes to appear in."

If YoungWoong Jaejoong is successfully cast in a drama, it will become an issue hotter than member Micky Yoochun's decision to appear in the KBS drama 'SungKyunKwan Scandal' as this will be his domestic drama debut.

'TVXQ Trio' JYJ's TV Appearance Falls Through.. Why?

It has been found that TVXQ's Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun and Kim Junsu (JYJ) attempted to appear on TV but it fell through in the end.

According to a representative in the Kpop industry, JYJ were nominated to perform a celebratory number at 'The 31st Blue Dragon Film Awards' that was aired on November 26th on KBS 2TV. For this, their KBS Kpop review was quickly done a week before the awards ceremony.

Usually, the review is done even before the album is released, but for JYJ, their review was done one month after their 'The Beginning' album was released in October. It has been confirmed that a total of seven songs, including JYJ's title song 'Empty', were deemed suitable for airing according to the results published on November 24th after the KBS Kpop review.

However, JYJ's appearance fell through. This seems to be because of JYJ's legal dispute with SM Entertainment. Furthermore, an extreme amount of pressure would have been placed on KBS if they had allowed JYJ to perform as pop culture-related associations are siding against JYJ, such as the Korean Federation of Pop Culture and Art Industry that sent out an official document to broadcasting and cable companies, as well as music distribution companies, demanding that JYJ's activities be restricted.

However, the 'Blue Dragon Film Awards' was not the only event where this happened. Even though it is now almost two months since JYJ's album release, we still cannot hear their music on TV or the radio. This has occurred though there have been many netizens asking radio stations to turn JYJ's music on as they have yet to hear these songs anywhere though the album has been released.

One Kpop representative stated, "If JYJ does not solve their dispute with SM, they will be faced with many more obstacles in the future if they wish to continue to sing," and "There are many producers who have raised their voices stating that regulations on activities must become more strict so that something like this does not happen again."

JYJ filed an exclusive contract suspension injunction against SM last July. They began their activities by releasing their first album under the name JYJ and holding showcases, but they have not been able to stand on a TV show's stage in Korea yet.

HOMIN TO PURPLE LIKE THAT; MAKING A COMEBACK IN KOREA AND JAPAN SIMULTANEOUSLY

"Expected To Simultaneously Rank #1 In Both Countries"

TVXQ are planning to perform in both Korea and Japan with the same title track.

TVXQ, now a duo with U-Know Yunho and Choikang Changmin, made an announcement through their official homepage on November 23rd that they will make a comeback next January. Following this, they announceed through their Japanese agency AVEX on December 2nd that they will be releasing a new single on January 26th.

The unknown song they are planning to sing is receiving great attention as TVXQ is planning to perform it in both Korea and Japan at the same time. TVXQ's agency SM Entertainment stated, "TVXQ are planning to perform the same title track in both Korea and Japan in January."

All the SM artistes, including TVXQ, BoA, Super Junior, Girls' Generation, SHINee and f(x), will be holding their Japan leg of the 'SMTOWN LIVE WORLD TOUR' on January 25th and 26th in Tokyo, Japan. Because this overlaps with the release of TVXQ's new single, there is a great possibility that they will be kicking off their activities in Japan at the SM TOWN concert.

On the other hand, TVXQ's Japanese comeback has been met with an explosive response from Japanese fans. On major album sites such as HMV and Tower Records, TVXQ's new single, set to release on January 26th, rose to #1 on the ranking charts as soon as it was released, thus proving their continued popularity in Japan.

Because Of JYJ, Nature Republic's Sales Quadrupled!

Last month, due to the Yeonpyeong Island bombing incident, the main source of revenue from tourists coming from sales of cosmetics stores in the Myeongdong distrct have decreased by 30%. On the contrary, sales from Nature Republic has increased by 4 times compared to the average volume of sales.

As the spokes-people for the Nature Republic brand and the center of the hot Hallyu wave, JYJ held their Seoul concert on November 27 and 28, spurring a massive influx of Japanese fans as well as tourists from other countries and initiating a cosmetics-buying frenzy.

Despite being under the extremely tense situation of the bombing attack, the reason for Korea's increase of tourism has every reason to be associated with JYJ's influence.

However, other cosmetic brands have also suffered a 20%-50% decrease of sales, even with the endorsements of Won Bin, Kim Hyun Joong, 2PM, Song Joong Ki, and SNSD. JYJ has without a doubt, the most influence across the southeast Asian countries with noticeable effects.

After Rain's endorsement, JYJ's invitation of being the faces of Nature Republic is positively expanding the industry's market share.

JYJ Twitter Update

Junsu quotes the Song that Gave him Hope (Song title-Golden Star from Mozart!)
(Junsu) The King would say this, that the world is full of destruction. He said 'I will not look outside and will protect you in this world'. He raised the palace walls and firmly closed the door. But, unable to stop his racing heart, the prince dreamed of the world on the other side of the palace walls. Now, he must leave that place, cross over the palace walls and leave on a journey to find that star~ (11:00am KST)

(Junsu) The reasons why you are living in this dangerous world, if you want to know all this, you must set out on a journey alone. Love does not confine, love sets you free. Sometimes you must endure pain, love is tears... That is love. When the golden star falls, you must leave on a journey that leads you to the world (11:03am KST)

(Junsu) On a night when the Big Dipper shines bright, cross over those high palace walls, and fly towards that world, a place no one has ever gone before..Fly... Golden Star gave me light, courage and hope during the hardest of times.. I really like the lyrics to this song.. (11:05am KST)

SM ENT DENIES RUMOURS THAT JESSICA WAS VIOLATED

Earlier today, a video of Girls' Generation at the 12th Annual Korea-China Song Festival created controversy. A fancam from the festival caught the attention of SONES as it contained footage of what seemed like a man touching Jessica inappropriately.

Jessica was seen quickly turning to Hyoyeon and whispering something into her ear, which caused Hyoyeon to sharply look in the direction of a man and open her mouth in shock and disgust. Jessica then went to Sooyoung who also turned and looked in the general direction to where Jessica was standing previously. Soon after, the man began to move away from the scene, and walk off.

However, due to the low quality of the video and the fact that it was impossible to see what was happening behind the members, no one was able to confirm the validity of the rumours. SM Entertainment confirmed that the rumours were false stating, "The rumours of sexual harassment towards member Jessica are simply not true. If an inappropriate incident took place, we would have taken immediate action. We do not want a misunderstanding."

It looks like some netizens and SONES read a bit too much into the video, but in fairness, the scene did look very suspicious. It's good to hear that Jessica was not touched inappropriately, but we're still curious as to why Hyoyeon had that expression after Jessica spoke to her.

JYJ MIGHT PERFORM AT DRAMA AWARDS

Korean boy band JYJ [Prain Inc.]

Korean boy band JYJ, composed of former TVXQ members Jaejung, Yuchun and Junsu, will likely take the stage at the 2010 KBS Drama Awards, making it the first time they will perform on television since debuting as a trio.

"It's not 100% confirmed as of yet but we in currently in talks with JYJ for a congratulatory performance during the 2010 KBS Drama Awards," a high-ranking official from KBS said. "It would be great if they performed the song 'Calling You' from the drama 'SungKyunKwan Scandal' since Yuchun gave such a memorable performance in the drama."

He went onto explain that they are fine-tuning on several details including how many songs JYJ will sing at the awards ceremony.

Jaejung, Yuchun and Junsu made their debut in 2004 as part of the popular boy band TVXQ, but despite their phenomenal success in Asia, they ceased their activities as a group after being involved in a legal dispute with the Korean agency SM Entertainment.

They made a comeback to the music scene in October as a trio under the name JYJ and released their worldwide studio album "The Beginning" on October 14, kicking off their global showcase to promote their album and themselves in Seoul and the United States.

JYJ recently held two series of show titled the "JYJ Worldwide Concert in Seoul" at the Main Olympic Stadium in Jamsil last month.

For two months from late August, Yuchun had starred in KBS' 20-episode series "SungKyunKwan Scandal" alongside cast members Park Min-young, Song Joong-ki and Yoo A-in. The show fared moderately well, posting ratings in the mid-ten percent range toward the end of its run.
