Eugene Explains Why S.E.S Broke up,...

Eugene talked about the disbandment of legendary idol girl group S.E.S.

She was a guest on the April 25th installment of MBC‘s ‘Knee Drop Guru‘. When the topic of S.E.S’s disbandment was brought up, she stated, “The three of us wanted to resign the contract as a group, but our label back then, (SM Entertainment) wanted to resign individually. In the end, we couldn’t agree on the process, and we decided to go our separate ways.

She added, “Back then, there was no such thing as ‘individual activities’. If you did individual activities, people would think you were betraying the rest of the members. So the three of us had to be together always. If it was like it is today, where you can freely promote individually, I think it would have been good because we would have been able to continue promoting without breaking up.

S.E.S had debuted in 1997, and was the very first female idol group in K-Pop. After five successful years together, they broke up in 2002. Currently, Eugene is active as an actress, while Bada and Shoo are working as singers and musical actresses.

She said, “The manager of H.O.T. saw me and just randomly asked me to translate things for them.  When the H.O.T. members were shopping they took me with them and I translated everything for them.”

When it was over, I was about to go back home but somebody called me over.  It was Lee Soo Man.  He asked me for my contact information and sure enough a few days later I received a call from Korea.  He asked if I could come to Korea so I went with my mom,” sharing the previously untold story on how she joined SM Entertainment and would later become a part of K-Pop history as a member of S.E.S.

Max Changmin Says, “Debuting At A Young Age, I Was Knocked Down Left And Right”

Max Changmin’s hidden competitiveness came out during ‘Our Neighborhood’s Master of Variety and Sports’.

During the episode KBS 2TV’s ‘Our Neighborhood’s Master of Variety and Sports’ that aired on the 23rd of April, the celebrity team went against the Mokdong Ping-pongs.

On this day, Max Changmin was the first one up to bat against the Mokdong Ping-pongs. He was more nervous about it than anyone else as he had been unable to participate in the last competition against the Sangdo-dong team and was less skilled at table tennis than his team members. Not only this, but his opponent’s considerable talent and his nerves had him making mistake after mistake.

Because of this, the Mokdong Ping-pongs were able to clinch an easy win over the singer and Max Changmin became extremely discouraged. After the competition, Max Changmin reproached himself as he said, “I was so nervous. Why am I a man of such poor caliber?”

However, he expressed his passion and competitiveness for table tennis as he confessed, “I used to be really competitive. But I was knocked down left and right because I had made my debut a a young age and was locked in competitions within the group and with other groups. So I found myself making excuses for myself about losing to others, and that put me at ease. But I think I’ve found my competitive streak again through table tennis.”

Choikang Changmin participated in (the production of) SHINee’s album as a lyricist.

The songs from SHINee’s 3rd official album “Chapter 2 ‘Why So Serious?’”, which will be released on 26 April, were revealed.

Among the songs included in the album this time, the track that is particularly attention-grabbing is the song titled “Can’t Leave (떠나지 못해)”. It has been a topic of discussion even before the track was revealed, as there was news that TVXQ’s Choikang Changmin had written the lyrics for this song.

This is the first time that Choikang Changmin has written lyrics for another singer.

Before writing lyrics for SHINee’s song this time, Choikang Changmin had shown his outstanding lyric-writing abilities through “Evergreen”, “Love In The Ice”, “12:34″, “Confession” and “I Swear”. In particular, he showed his capabilities as a musician through his expression of emotions.

According to an SM representative on 24 April via Newsen, “As Choikang Changmin is usually interested in writing lyrics, and has had thoughts of participating in the lyric-writing for other artistes, he contributed the lyrics for SHINee’s “Can’t Leave” this time.” The representative also revealed a behind-the-scenes story, “We received lyrics from many popular lyricists for this song, but it was decided that Choikang Changmin’s lyrics were the best among them, so it was chosen.”

Meanwhile, Choikang Changmin is currently active as a permanent cast member of KBS2TV’s “Our Neighborhood’s Master of Variety And Sports”, and TVXQ’s 5-dome tour will begin in Saitama, Japan on 27 April.
