Monday, October 26

Seungyeon

Last week we saw the smokin' Brown Eyed Girl Ga-In as a pro-gamer and now Kara's Seungyeon makes her debut as a pianist by day, and a hip and trendy DJ by night.

Seungyeon is a cute and bright aspiring pianist, yet she transforms into a sexy and charismatic club DJ inside the booth, showing a very different side of her, especially from what we have known her for.

A staff member from the campaign stated:

"For this set, Seungyeon learned how to DJ from famous DJ PsyTonic and during the filming she showed off her skills, surprising the entire staff."

For those of you who haven't been following this series, these individual music drama's are being released weekly for each member of the Samsung "4Tomorrow project."

International Members in Idol Groups

Sunday, September 6

Idol groups share many things in common, they can sing, rap, dance, and they usually have a lot of members. But one other thing they share in common these days is having one or more international group member/s in their respective groups.

In After School, you have Beka (Korean American). In Super Junior, you have HanGeng (Chinese). In 2pm, you have TaecYeon, JaeBeom (Korean American), and NichKhun (Thai / Chinese). In SNSD, you have Tiffany, Jessica (Korean American), SooYoung (Korean lived in Japan), and HyoYeon (Korean lived in China). In Wonder Girls, you have Yubin (Korean lived in San Jose, California). In 2AM, you have ChangMin (Korean lived in Canada). In 2NE1, you have Sandara Park (Korean lived in Philippines), and Park Bom (Korean studied in Boston, Massachusetts). In Epik High you have Tablo (Korean and lived all over the world, famous for graduating from Stanford with a degree in English Literature and a Masters). There are more including Victoria (Chinese) and Amber (Chinese grew up in Orange County, California) from new SM group, f(x).

There are so many to name, I can't even name them all here. I still haven't mentioned Nicole (Korean American) of Kara, MickyYooChun (Korean lived in America) of TVXQ, and the list will still go on and on. There's only a few groups I know of that doesn't have international members off the top of my head: SHINee, 4minute, and Big Bang.

From the above list, you might have read some names that may have surprised you. That is because people think America when you think of international idol group members. But there's a wide variety now; China, Japan, Canada, USA, the Philippines, and Thailand. People may think of the big and populated places such as the USA and Japan but now they come from everywhere. For example, Sandara Park comes from having a career in the Philippines. This shows the K-Pop industry expanding its horizons in terms of accepting new people into the music scene landscape.

Now you might wonder why there are so many of them. Entertainment companies want international members because they have international knowledge and if they come to Korea, they will also carry a Korean feeling which will appeal to the audience. Another reason is language. Language is a huge barrier for Asians trying to make it in another country. Boa, Se7en, and the Wonder Girls all had to study English very hard and though they have improved, they're still not perfectly fluent. TVXQ had to learn Japanese to make it in the J-Pop industry. By having someone who is already fluent in the language, you know they will lead the group if the group ever decides to debut / crossover over to other countries. Not only regarding traveling to a different country but just connecting with fans in general is easier when you know more language(s). SooYoung of SNSD knows Japanese where as HyoYeon and HanGeng know Chinese. Nichkhun represent 2PM whenever they visit Thailand. This all helps the groups get more known in Asia and the rest of the world.

These international members help bring KPOP music to the rest of the world. International fans will find it easier to accept once they find something in common with the group, once they know they share a hometown, or speak the same language. So all this is only a good thing.

Check out some idol stars speak their second language:

Kara’s Ghost Attacked SNSD While Kara Dukes It Out With SNSD For Pride?

Kara's Ghost Attacked SNSD and Kara Duking It Out With SNSD For Pride?

The ghost that shook Kara's maknae Jiyoung's hand seems to also be an SNSD fan because his next target was Seohyun. First Kara's maknae, and now SNSD's maknae. I guess he figured being butt raped by a demon in ghost prison is worth it after all.

At about 2:17 into the video, when Seohyun speaks, you can hear someone whispering along to Seohyun. Turn up your volume if you can't hear it. I was a little creeped out, okay maybe I was a lot creeped out. Alright fine, I almost pooed in my pants, are you happy now? Anyways, as I was saying, I was a little creeped out until I realized that the voice sounded kinda like a female voice, and then I thought "hm...lesbian ghost? HOT!!!"

WATCH HERE..

On a side note, Kara and SNSD jokingly had a fake little pride battle on SGB. When the MC asked Jessica if she was jealous of Kara's looks, there was a long silence that caused the studio to erupt in laughter. Jessica showcased her famous Sica Effect, and even topped it off with a super cute squeaky laugh at about 0:18. Not to be outdone, Kara's goddess Gyuri, known for being jokingly narcissistic, also said that there's nothing to be jealous about when asked the same question about SNSD. I am loving the interactions between the two groups. Though don't worry, they were just joking around because SNSD and Kara are actually good friends, as noted in this fancam below in which Nicole gives Seohyun a kiss on the cheek.

Kara’s Nicole “molested”?,

Monday, March 23

KARA nicole Pictures, Images and Photos

After Tiffany of Girls’ Generation was “molested” on television from unintentional groping and an unusually friendly hand, there has been a slightly more direct case for on-screen troubles.

KBS 2TV’s “Road Show! Quiz Expedition” has been swept up in controversy with accusations of molestation.

“Quiz Expedition” travels around universities around Korea and challenges students to win a scholarship of 5 million Won ($3500 US). KBS broadcast, without editing, a student forcing himself on and kissing Kara member Nicole at Sejong University on the 15th.

Kim, a member of university’s Comedy Club, offered to show a personal talent for the cameras and asked Nicole to assist him. While she was distracted, he kissed her, in what is described “๊ธฐ์Šตํ‚ค์Šค”, or “ambush kiss”. Nicole is said to have been shocked to have been kissed by a strange man and was seen running in amongst the show judges, and images were broadcast of her friends from Kara comforting her.

Netizens have been divided on the matter since the broadcast. The Q&A section on the homepage for “Quiz Expedition” has become an open ground for debate. One side of the netizens called it “an aegyo filled prank”, while the other call it “outright molestation” and have criticised the production team and the students involved.

Suju Hankyung, leveled with Kara Nicole?

Photobucket

On the 21st of March, the recently came back Super Junior came out on KBS 2TV’s ‘Star Golden Bell’ and met Kara’s Jung Nicole.

On ‘Level With Me’, Nicole has gained a lot of popularity with her witty and creative hints.

On this day, Super Junior had to guess whose name that Nicole was referring to.

Unlike Siwon, who was able to get the correct answer fast, the Chinese member, Han Kyung, had a hard time understanding Nicole’s hints.

The hint that Nicole gave to Hankyung was “Your Boss!”. All of the guests were able to know that she was referring to Lee Soo Man, but Hankyung replied with, “teacher?”

So, Nicole gave “Two (pronounced as Lee/Yi in Korean) in English”, “Monday, Tuesday, and then? (Wednesday in Korean is Soo yo il), and “more expensive than 5,000 Won (the paper money with a higher value than 5,000 won is 10,000 won, pronounced as Man won)” as hints, but Hankyung was still clueless and replied with “6,000 Won?”

Following Hankyung, Alexander from U-Kiss also had a hard time getting the right answer. His word was “To Home.”

Even though they took a lot of time, they were able to get the right answer. The viewers thought that Nicole was very cute getting frustrated with these two guests who were not very fluent in Korean.

On the other hand, it has been four years since Hankyung came to Korea and a part of Super Junior, while Alexander from U-Kiss was born between a Hong Kong dad and a Korean Mother. Because he came to Korea in 2008 to debut as U-Kiss, he is not very fluent in Korean. Nicole came to Korea four years ago from America, making her not as fluent in Korean as other celebrities, as well.

Kara Nicole is a genius?

Kara Nicole is a genius?,
NICOLE Pictures, Images and Photos

On the 14th of March, Nicole gave the audience and the guests a big laugh on KBS 2TV’s ‘Star Golden Bell’.

Since last December, Nicole has been a regular on ‘Star Golden Bell’s Level with Me’ where she gives out hints to the guests to guess the word or the phrase that she is referring to. Because of her broken Korean, Nicole uses her creativity to create hints, often giving out not only witty but also funny ones.

On this day, Nicole gave “The money you use to make your homepage pretty,” as the hint for the adage, “Acorn on dog food.” For “Besame Mucho”, to explain the word, “Bae”, Nicole said “Chopsticks beside a cup that is about a half full”.

Also on this episode, Alexander from U-Kiss answered “Cat, Mouse thinking, how are they related?” for the question that asked the adage, “The cat thinks about the mouse.”

Nicole also misunderstood the word “Yang Ji” as “brushing your teeth” (Yang chi jil). She suddenly acted tooth brushing out in order to give it as one of the hints. Because of Nicole’s witty and creative hints, the guests praised her and called her a ‘genius’.
