To celebrate its 27th anniversary, Sports Korea recently conducted a survey to find the top dogs of K-pop this year, interviewing those that would know best — the idols themselves! Inviting 100 idols to participate in the event, the team was able to discern interesting facts about these performers’ lives as well as who they think are at the top of the industry.
The participants of this survey included 2PM, 4minute, B2ST, SISTAR, SECRET, FT Island, CNBLUE, f(x), B.A.P, EXO-K, Jewelry, JJ Project, Z:EA, Dal Shabet, A Pink, Nine Muses, Dalmatian, Boyfriend, BTOB and Bigs.

Official Announcement Made For Tracks To Be Performed By K-pop Groups In Kouhaku Utagassen

The track list of artists appearing in the “62nd NHK Kouhaku Utagassen”  to be broadcasted on the 31 December with the theme of “(Let Us) Sing of Tomorrow”, was announced on 21 December.

This year, the appearance of 3 of Korea’s popular groups “Shoujo Jidai”, “KARA” and “Tohoshinki” have been decided upon, sparking interest in Korea as well.

Tohoshinki, who will be appearing for the 3rd time this year, will be exciting the crowd in the venue with their single “Why? (Keep Your Head Down)”, which was released in January and reached an outstanding number 1 on the Oricon charts. Shoujo Jidai will be singing their Japanese debut single “Genie”, released last September, while KARA will be showcasing a special medley of 2011.

On another note, the order of appearance of the participating singers is expected to be officially announced on the 27th of this month.

Winners from the 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards...

On November 29th, Mnet hosted its 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards (‘MAMA‘) at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, attracting stars and performers from both Korea and around the world.
This year, the awards ceremony tried out something new by having 20 presenters instead of official MCs to host the show. These presenters were comprised of Korea’s top actors and TV personalities, who helped distribute the awards to the winning artists.

K-pop singers leading ‘German Asian Music Chart’ ..

K-pop has grown its roots in German.In accordance to released  ‘German Asian Music Chart’ ratings, K-pop singers are all over the chart.

This rating is given after compiled results of voting by local Germans, one can vote any Asian artist viz Korean, Chinese, Japanese. Recently, they revealed the October’s top 20 Asian artists and strikingly K-pop singer were all over it.

JYJ with ‘In Heaven‘ is on first position of the chart followed by MBLAQ‘s ‘Mona Lisa‘. Brown Eyed Girls‘ ‘Sixth Sence‘ and CN BLUE‘s ‘In my head‘ are on 3rd and 4th respectively. JYJ’s another song ‘Get Out‘ got 7th and KARA‘s ‘Step‘ on 8th. Super Junior‘s are on the chart with there songs ‘A-Cha‘ and ‘Mr Simple‘ on ninth and thirteenth.

SNSD’s YoonA selected as most intelligent female idol...

According to a survey conducted by a clinic located in Seoul Gangnam’s Seochowon, SNSD‘s YoonA was chosen as the most intelligent girl group member.

273 people were asked to choose one girl group member that seemed to have an intelligence above the rest, and 148 (54.2%) of the vote went to YoonA. Runner up was KARA‘s Goo Hara with 23.4% of all votes, followed by After School‘s Kahi who earned 18.3% of the overall vote.

The clinic explained, “The participants felt that girl group members who actively sing, act, and make numerous variety show appearance must be the most talented and intelligent. It takes a lot of brainpower to be able to do all three with finesse, and they most likely grew progressively smarter over time, as the human brain further develops the more you utilize it”

YoonA and the rest of her SNSD members have recently made a comeback with their new album ‘The Boys‘ and achieved an all-kill shortly after the release.

DREAM CONCERT LINE UP!

On May 16th, the Korea Entertainment Producers’ Association released the final line-up for this year’s “Dream Concert“.

Representatives revealed, “We have finalized and confirmed a total of 24 different teams. KARA, who recently came to a compromise with their agency, will also be joining this year’s ‘Dream Concert’.”

The final line-up includes TVXQ, KARA, SHINee, B2ST, 4minute, 2PM, F.T. Island, f(x), G.NA, miss A, Kim Tae Woo, Seo In Kook, SECRET, SISTAR, IU, Rainbow, After School, U-KISS, Eru, K-Will, Jewelry, T-ara, 5dolls, and Flower.

Since 2011 marks its 17th year, the Dream Concert will be held at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on May 28th at 6:30 PM KST.

Representatives went on to reveal, “Since we began ticket sales on April 7th, we’ve received over 100 phone calls a day. The official homepage for ‘Dream Concert’ also crashed on the 3rd and 7th, and with 20 days still left to go, music fans have been showing explosive interest in the concert.”

Japanese fans are disappointed in KARA

As their scandal continues to snowball and gather headlines, Japan’s love for KARA is starting to cool.

KARA to revive their Korean schedule

After returning to their Japanese schedules last week, KARA has announced that they’ll be tending to their Korean activities as well, starting with leader Park Gyuri’s attendance at the “Alpha & Omega” press conference on February 10th.

After meeting with DSP Media on January 27th, the group decided to fulfill the commitments they’ve made prior to the dispute. The continuation of the team, as well as the status of the lawsuit, will be discussed at a later date.

On February 8th, a representative confirmed, “Gyuri will be attending the interview at the press conference on the 10th.“  The girls will also be participating in fan signings, CF recordings, and many other activities over the coming weeks.

First Korean Girl Group to enter Oricon Charts....

With the release of their Japanese debut single Mister, the girls of KARA had a lot of success throughout last week including the #1 spots they grabbed in Japanese iTunes‘ music video and musicdownload charts.

Well, their success doesn’t seem to stop there as the girls have broken into Oricon’s weekly ranking top 10 after selling 29k copies of their debut single album so far.

On the 17th, Oricon Style reported the girls’ success as, “First time in 29 years and 8 months since a foreign girl group has entered the top 10 with their debut album.” KARA’s single debut album Mister will be ranked at #5 in the weekly single ranking that will be released on the 23rd.

The last time a foreign group has breaked into the top 10 is back in December 15th of 1980, when a Irish 5-member group The Nolans ranked 7th with their single I’m In the Mood for Dancing. Even if foreign solo artists were included, they would still be the 4th ones to have breaked into the top 10.

Quite impressive, heh? Congratulations to the girls of KARA, yet again!

Yuri shows off her sexy flexibility

During the filming of KBS 2TV's Invincible Youth, G7 members followed SNSD / Girls Generation member Yuri's lead and participated in various stretching exercises before tending to their morning tasks together. As the group attempted to perform small work-outs to warm up their bodies, SNSD's sexbomb demonstrated her hidden talent for yoga.

Kara's Goo Hara, on the other hand, struggled to execute the yoga poses as effortlessly as Yuri and appeared to be the most stiff of all. To this, Hara expressed, "I thought I could get by with just the butt dance, but it seems I need to work on my flexibility."

However, Hara fared much better than Brown Eyed Girls' Narsha as the latter only attempted one pose, complaining that she was tired and collapsed on the floor in forfeit.

On this day, SNSD's Sunny, also assumed the role of the yoga instructor and flaunted her impressive flexibility, mastering all the poses flawlessly and doing fairly well in a contests of splits. Unfortunately, because of Sunny's short legs, she was unable to advance further into the competition and fell short of 1st place (pun intended).

Most of the female idols on the show revealed their splits on stage in the past, but, in the end, the two finalists were narrowed down to 4minute's sexy HyunA and SNSD's Yuri. Eager to declare a winner, MC Kim Shin Young offered that she would give twice the points to the girl who can turn while doing the splits.

I'm not gonna lie. I tried imitating Yuri's pose in the second picture to determine my flexibility, but, as I was raising my bended leg, I heard something crack. She made it look so easy that I thought I could be able to do it too, but I dream... I'll leave the yoga to Yuri and Dhalsim.

Kim Bum, Kara, Epik High, and more on Infinity Challenge!

Last week's Infinity Challenge Rice Farming Special was pretty epic as it featured 2PM with Jaebeom. One might've thought that the show would have a letdown after having such awesome guests the week before, but think again because this weeks show was just as epic.

This weeks show featured a super star lineup including Kim Bum, KARA, M (Lee Min Woo), Epik High, Bada (SES), and Jewelry.

Each one of the members of the Infinity Challenge crew called the stars to come down to the rice farm. In the early morning Jung Joon Ha called Kim Bum to come down and he came with some prepared food for the crew and he also put on some boots to help them out in the rice field.

In the afternoon, Gil called upon Epik High where Epik High put on a performance for the crew and Jun Jin called upon his fellow Shinhwa member Lee Minwoo (M). Yoo Jae Suk called Bada (SES) and Jewelry. Gil got a bit shy when he saw his girlfriend Park Jung Ah from Jewelry. Park Myung Soo called KARA's Gyuri and they showed up to do a "butt dance" performance for the crew.

KARA’s Seungyeon is a pianist and DJ 4Tomorrow

Last week we saw the smokin' Brown Eyed Girl Ga-In as a pro-gamer and now Kara's Seungyeon makes her debut as a pianist by day, and a hip and trendy DJ by night.

Seungyeon is a cute and bright aspiring pianist, yet she transforms into a sexy and charismatic club DJ inside the booth, showing a very different side of her, especially from what we have known her for.

A staff member from the campaign stated:

"For this set, Seungyeon learned how to DJ from famous DJ PsyTonic and during the filming she showed off her skills, surprising the entire staff."

For those of you who haven't been following this series, these individual music drama's are being released weekly for each member of the Samsung "4Tomorrow project."

Opening Dance Stage at Girl Groups Chuseok Special

Ever wondered what SNSD would look like doing the Saucy Hip Swaying Dance? Or what T-ara would look like doing Kara's Butt Dance?

The opening dance stage of the anticipated Chuseok Girl Groups Special called Sweet Girl will have the various girl group idols come out and dance to each other's hit songs. They will perform SNSD's Leg Kick. Saucy Hip Swaying move by the Brown Eyed Girls, Butt Dance by Kara, and more!

SNSD, Kara, Brown Eyed Girls, After School, 4minute, and T-ara will all be there to be part of this fun event! All 6 idol girl groups will come together to end up with one person who will survive in the end. I don't know what that means but they will probably do survival games like in any other shows. I'm sure it'll be entertaining though, what could possibly go wrong?

The MC is Noh Hong Chul and we know he won't hit on any of these ladies because he's got one himself. Though, he will definitely help out with breaking the ice if any of the idols act awkward.

It'll be so nice to see these girls be in one show all together. I always like seeing the interaction. What a shame, 2NE1 won't be there. This will air on October 2nd. So many Chuseok specials, can't keep up!
