Saturday, October 31

Kim Bum, Kara, Epik High, and more on Infinity Challenge!

Last week's Infinity Challenge Rice Farming Special was pretty epic as it featured 2PM with Jaebeom. One might've thought that the show would have a letdown after having such awesome guests the week before, but think again because this weeks show was just as epic.

This weeks show featured a super star lineup including Kim Bum, KARA, M (Lee Min Woo), Epik High, Bada (SES), and Jewelry.

Each one of the members of the Infinity Challenge crew called the stars to come down to the rice farm. In the early morning Jung Joon Ha called Kim Bum to come down and he came with some prepared food for the crew and he also put on some boots to help them out in the rice field.

In the afternoon, Gil called upon Epik High where Epik High put on a performance for the crew and Jun Jin called upon his fellow Shinhwa member Lee Minwoo (M). Yoo Jae Suk called Bada (SES) and Jewelry. Gil got a bit shy when he saw his girlfriend Park Jung Ah from Jewelry. Park Myung Soo called KARA's Gyuri and they showed up to do a "butt dance" performance for the crew.

2009 Dream Concert Update : will DBSK and 2PM participate?

Wednesday, September 9

There has been great interests on whether groups 2PM and Dong Bang Shin Ki will participate for 2009 Dream Concert this year.

The staff talks about group Dong Bang Shin Ki, whose 3 members have recently been in a contractual disagreement with their company SM Entertainment, “Even though fans’ anticipation for Dream Concert is big, it is more important for Dong Bang Shin Ki and their company to settle their disagreement amiably. Like everyone else, we hope that all 5 members will come together on one stage again.”

JaeBum has also left Korea for his hometown Seattle in the States where his family is. While that, 2PM’s future plans are still not confirmed.

Meanwhile, the staff to the Dream Concert said, “I look forward to have music lovers in their teens and 20s take part in this concert where all the popular Kpop singers will perform on one stage. Tickets will be available on GMarket (www.gmarket.co.kr) from 10th September at 8pm.”

Jewelry After The ET Dance

Thursday, September 3

Remember how big the commotions were in Korea for Jewelry's "ET" dance to their hit song "One More Time"? Well these ladies are back and even more Sophisticated!

Jewelry, who has made a comeback with their song "Variety" on August 27th, is once again capturing many men's hearts with the new sassy, swaying dance moves. This new dance is said to resemble the image of fall winds, which is perfect for the new season.

The song "Variety" is about women who portray a different appeal to men everyday, but the dance itself is doing a whole lot of appealing to all the male fans out there.

A representative of Jewelry's company stated, "Like the ET dance, the swaying dance is made easy for everyone to follow. Just leave the repetitive rhythm in charge of your body and let loose, all the while softly shaking your wrists and body along with the music. It's most important to let the music flow through your body."

Sneak peek of Jewelry’s music video filming

Tuesday, August 18

After letting fans get a taste of Jewelry's new concept for their upcoming 6th album Sophisicated and Strong Girl on the 17th, Star Empire has now released another picture of the girls at the filming site for their music video.

Jewelry filmed their music video in a Gyeonggi-do studio on the 15th and were in dresses, designed by Korean fashion designer, Lee Sang Bong. Park Jung Ah looked really nice and elegant in her dress, Seo In Young had a Lady Gaga/tiger motif inspired outfit which really stood out, Kim Eun Jung wore a cute little white dress while Ha Joo Yeon donned a vintage dress.

Star Empire said, "We are very grateful to fashion designer, Lee Sang Bong for sponsoring us the dresses. The Jewelry members had nothing but praise for the attractive dresses and were really honored to be wearing them for the music video."

Jewelry's 6th album, Sophisicated and music video will drop on 25th August.

Some of you might have been wondering what letters or word the girls are carrying in the picture. Seo In Young has V,A on her head, Joo Yeon has R,I in her hands, Eun Jung has 2 in her hands while Jung Ah carries T,Y. Together, the word is spelt as V-A-R-I-2-T-Y, Vari2ty. Why 2 and not E? In Korean language, E can be pronounced as 2 also.

[NEWS] Popular Girl Groups Have ‘Foreigners’

Wednesday, February 18

overseas-girls

There is a common factor between popular girl groups, which is having members who grew up in foreign countries or have studied overseas.

9 member girl group SNSD who is receiving lots of popularity with their new mini album title song ‘Gee’, members Tiffany (20) and Jessica (20) are from overseas. Tiffany and Jessica grew up in the States and to fulfill their dreams of becoming singers during middle school and high school, they came to Korea.

5 member girl group Kara’s member Nicole (18) is from overseas. Kara’s entertainment company DSP Media informed on the 16th ” Born in America, Nicole came to Korea around the age of 15 after living there to become a singer.”

New and superior girl group After School’s youngest Baekha (20) also came from overseas from Hawaii in America and before 1 year and 6 months ago, lived there since.

In popular girl groups, after being born in Korea, there are members who traveled overseas to study in America, Japan and China.

Wonder Girls‘ Yoobin (21) went overseas for a year and 2 months after her family’s business moved to the States and came back to Korea.

Jewelry’s HaJuyeon (23) also studied overseas. Jewelry’s entertainment company Star Empire informed “Ha Juyeon graduated in U.S.A, L.A’s Granada High School and while going to a college there, came back to Korea to become a singer.”

Kara’s Han Seungyeon (21) attended one of America’s top high schools, Tenafly High School in New Jersey for about a year and 6 months. Han Seungyeon told Star News saying “I didn’t graduate from Tenafly High School, in the middle I wanted to become a singer and came back to Korea.” After returning from America, Han Seungyeon graduated from a high school in Korea through a G.E.D and after studying hard in 2008 was accepted at Kyunghee University for Theater and Drama.

SNSD’s Sooyoung (19) and Hyoyeon (20) studied overseas during their middle school days separately in Japan and China. SNSD’s entertainment company SM Entertainment revealed “Sooyoung studied in Japan and Hyoyeon studied in China for over 1 year” and “The two went overseas to study during middle school and after living there has become very familiar to the language.”

Then why are the popular girl groups these days have members from overseas as if it’s a given? About the topic, entertainment officials say “It is because the members provide multiple benefits to the team and selling overseas.”

There is also the positive factor that the foreign members could naturally digest the English raps to songs when looking at the team internally.

One entertainment official said ” Within girl groups, the members from oversea are fluent in English” and “These days, girl groups’ songs having English raps are common, its comfortable for the foreign members who are used to English and could express it better, making it a positive point.” Wonder Girls‘ rapper Yoobin and Jewerly’s Ha Juyeon is an example.

In general, during oversea activities, the members give a lot of help to the team. Of course in Asia and America, when promoting, the members who are comfortable with English, Japanese and Chinese are responsible for the role of introducing themselves to fans and local media members.

SM Entertainment informed “When SNSD met with fans from China and Japan, Hyoyeon and Sooyoung who are used to the culture are the one who mainly interact with the fans” and explained that “In English interviews, Tiffany and Jessica are a big help.”
