Goo Hye-sun Talks About her Role in "Boys Over Flowers",

“Loving someone despite all obstacles may be one of the most difficult things in life. It may be harder than living in poverty,” said Ku Hye-sun, who is playing the heroine whom two of the four protagonists are pursuing in the KBS2 hit drama “Boys Over Flowers.” And that is why most women viewers are jealous of her.

In an interview at a shooting site at Eulwangri Beach in Incheon on Sunday, Ku said, “I was skeptical about its success when I decided to take the role. I doubted it would appeal to Koreans because it is based on a Japanese comic book. Taking the role itself was a challenge.”

Geum Jan-di, whom she plays, is an ordinary high school student who wants to be a swimmer. She happens to attend a school for rich children although her family is poor, with her parents running a small cleaners that they eventually lose to creditors. This gets her subjected to contempt and mistreatment, but she tries not to lose her dignity and faces her situation squarely.

Ku confessed that she herself couldn’t understand the character completely. “There were moments that I couldn’t sympathize with her. If I had been able to, I would not have had conflicts in my mind. I wondered why she tries to deal with all her difficulties alone and why she feels she has to take care of her family.”

But the 25-year-old actress said that Jan-di has made her a more genuine and happier person. “By playing the role, I have become more positive. I was sorry to realize that I am losing innocence as I get older, and that made it more difficult for me to be Jan-di. So whenever I couldn’t identify with her, I kind of forced myself to become more innocent.”

She continued, “And I actually recalled my high school years, and realized that what I cherished most then was the people I liked. It seems I felt that if I could be with them, I could do anything.”

The drama is enjoying great popularity thanks to Ku and the other stars who are giving their utmost effort despite some misfortunes they have suffered. Ku had a car accident on her way back to Seoul from a local shooting site and had to have the inside of her mouth stitched.

“I have to get a thorough examination when the shooting ends. I bumped my head hard as well, but had no time to get an examination due to the shooting schedule,” she said. “The schedule is so tight that we all have trouble with our physical conditions. We are suffering lack of sleep so much that we can fall asleep at any moment. Now that all the shooting will be over in a week, we will hang in there until then.”

In Incheon, she shot a scene where Jan-di, who has decided to part ways with her boyfriend Jun-pyo, played by Lee Min-ho, due to his mother’s disapproval, goes on a trip with him for the last time.

“But I want it to come to a happy ending. I personally like stories with happy endings because they warm people’s hearts. I hope my drama is also one of those kinds,” said Ku.

Hyunjoong takes the catwalk for Seoul Fashion Week,

Seoul Fashion Week officially kicked off and Kim Hyunjoong was one of the celebs that were spotted during the event.

But unlike most celebrities who got front row seats, Hyunjoong pawned them all by walking the runway wearing clothes from designer Han Sang Hyeok’s F/W ‘09 Collection.

Girl idol group, Kara, finally has become the MC for the first time since their debut two years ago.

Kara found out that they became the MCs for cable program, MBC Everyone’s ‘Idol Show’. They will go on air for the first time as MCs on the 2nd of April.

‘Idol Show’ is a variety program where different idol groups appear as guests and battle each other. Super Junior, FT Island, and 2PM had been the MCs for this show.

Kara’s leader, Park Gyuri said in a phone interview with Newsway, “We came on the show as guests once when Super Junior was hosting, and once when 2PM was hosting the show. I have always wanted to be in their spot after watching them host the show.”

She added, “Every time we went on the show, the script writers told us that we would do great, but we had never dreamed about becoming MCs. When we heard the news, we were screaming with joy.”

“Up until now, there only have been male MCs, so I feel burdensome. But, all the members are excited about this new experience, so we will do our best.”

SS501 Heo YoungSaeng, Kim HyungJoon & Kim KyuJong left for USA in order to prepare for their official album to be released in July.

SS501’s company DSP Media representative said “They left on 21-Mar for 4days-3nights trip to USA. After their performance to support the Korean athlete representatives at WBC semifinals, SS501 will meet with the American dance team and go for a (dance) potential test.”

SS501 will learn dancing with the America chorographer, and has plans to meet with producers and other related personnel for their official album. Although they are not advancing into USA, SS501 will still get appraised fairly by the famous American dance team and producers on their abilities.

Company’s representative said “We plan to finish 70% of the official album in USA. This USA trip will be a check on SS501’s current condition before making the album.”

He explained, denying their advance into USA “We are not at that stage yet. While their albums are released, the members would have more expectations about perfecting their music and we will then plan for that.”

SS501 had their individual activities in drama, musical and unit (music), gaining their position in these fields. They will release an official album with all 5 members in July.

8 members of SNSD and 5 members of Kara appeared as cute teenage girls to chat on MBC's Come to Play's "Girls' Special", set to air on March 23th.

MBC's Come to Play announced at the start that the highlight of the "Girls' Special" airing would be the "Girls' Awards 2009", explaining that the 13 girls would be judged based on five major criteria such as "The girl that is the easiest to handle", "The most strong-willed girl" and "The girl that worries me the most". The judge panel consisted of 45 members from 7 of Korea's representative male idol groups such as Tohoshinki, SS501, Super Junior, Big Bang, FT Island, SHINee and 2PM. The male idols would present their opinions directly through a survey, and they demonstrated the great enthusiasm they had by having the survey forms sent to Japan for Tohoshinki and America for 2PM.

In order to validate and prove the girls in each of the abovementioned criterion, the back-stories to each group as well as never-seen-before killer individual talents were revealed. After the winners were announced, the male idols would then reveal the reasons for their choice with the girls being visibly nervous in the background.

"Come to Play", featuring no end of cute girl talk from SNSD and Kara as well as the surveys filled in by many male idols, is set to air on the 23th at 11.05pm.

Davichi accuse of copying~

Netizens in Korea have drawn attention to the fact that Davichi's recent hit song 8282 might have been a copy of British singer Mika's Happy Ending. And this was not the first time that Davichi has been accused of copying. Their previous hit song Love and War (feat.Haha) in 2008 was deemed to have been a hybrid copy of Oh Song's Oh Summer, Please and Sung Yu Bin's Nuneul Kamado (Close Your Eyes) as their melodies sounded similar.

With regards to the accusations, a Mnet Media representative expressed, "The copying allegations are untrue." Their manager also said, "They claimed that the song is copied just because there's a little bit of resemblance, that is simply unacceptable."

Kara’s Nicole “molested”?,

After Tiffany of Girls’ Generation was “molested” on television from unintentional groping and an unusually friendly hand, there has been a slightly more direct case for on-screen troubles.

KBS 2TV’s “Road Show! Quiz Expedition” has been swept up in controversy with accusations of molestation.

“Quiz Expedition” travels around universities around Korea and challenges students to win a scholarship of 5 million Won ($3500 US). KBS broadcast, without editing, a student forcing himself on and kissing Kara member Nicole at Sejong University on the 15th.

Kim, a member of university’s Comedy Club, offered to show a personal talent for the cameras and asked Nicole to assist him. While she was distracted, he kissed her, in what is described “기습키스”, or “ambush kiss”. Nicole is said to have been shocked to have been kissed by a strange man and was seen running in amongst the show judges, and images were broadcast of her friends from Kara comforting her.

Netizens have been divided on the matter since the broadcast. The Q&A section on the homepage for “Quiz Expedition” has become an open ground for debate. One side of the netizens called it “an aegyo filled prank”, while the other call it “outright molestation” and have criticised the production team and the students involved.

Suju Hankyung, leveled with Kara Nicole?

On the 21st of March, the recently came back Super Junior came out on KBS 2TV’s ‘Star Golden Bell’ and met Kara’s Jung Nicole.

On ‘Level With Me’, Nicole has gained a lot of popularity with her witty and creative hints.

On this day, Super Junior had to guess whose name that Nicole was referring to.

Unlike Siwon, who was able to get the correct answer fast, the Chinese member, Han Kyung, had a hard time understanding Nicole’s hints.

The hint that Nicole gave to Hankyung was “Your Boss!”. All of the guests were able to know that she was referring to Lee Soo Man, but Hankyung replied with, “teacher?”

So, Nicole gave “Two (pronounced as Lee/Yi in Korean) in English”, “Monday, Tuesday, and then? (Wednesday in Korean is Soo yo il), and “more expensive than 5,000 Won (the paper money with a higher value than 5,000 won is 10,000 won, pronounced as Man won)” as hints, but Hankyung was still clueless and replied with “6,000 Won?”

Following Hankyung, Alexander from U-Kiss also had a hard time getting the right answer. His word was “To Home.”

Even though they took a lot of time, they were able to get the right answer. The viewers thought that Nicole was very cute getting frustrated with these two guests who were not very fluent in Korean.

On the other hand, it has been four years since Hankyung came to Korea and a part of Super Junior, while Alexander from U-Kiss was born between a Hong Kong dad and a Korean Mother. Because he came to Korea in 2008 to debut as U-Kiss, he is not very fluent in Korean. Nicole came to Korea four years ago from America, making her not as fluent in Korean as other celebrities, as well.

Dong Bang Shin Ki special appearance on We Got Married

Idol group Dong Bang Shin Ki made a special appearance on the episode of MBC We Got Married aired on 22nd March.

During this episode, Jung Hyung Don had escorted made-believe wife TaeYeon together to Thailand Bangkok.

TaeYeon had participated in the ‘SM Town Live Tour’ together with the rest of the So Nyeo Shi Dae members on 7th February in Thailand. And because the other SM Town singers like Dong Bang Shin Ki, SHINee, Super Junior and Cheon Sang Ji Hee had also participated in the concert, Hyung Don had taken the liberty to meet the Dong Bang Shin Ki members and talked to them.

Harvard Law Students interested in Girls’ Generation?

Harvard Law Students interested in Girls' Generation / SNSD? That might sound a bit crazy but its true according to Yahoo Korea.

The article states that Girls' Generation will meet up with some Harvard Law Students to teach them their popular "Gee" Dance. The Harvard students will be going to Korea on March 23rd to research Korean Culture. The scheduled meeting is to take place at SM Entertainment on March 26th.

This isn't the first time for Harvard to be interested in Korean Culture. In the past, Harvard has invited SM Entertainment CEO Lee Soo Man to lecture about the "Korean Wave" to Harvard MBA Students. They also had featured Paneled Discussions featuring JYP at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government about "Hallyu."
